During the pandemic of 2020, I started going live on instagram for my fans almost every other day. I felt like it was a way to just keep some hope alive with music in a dark time when there was so much uncertainty. I decided to do a new song every Saturday and create a series called “New Song Saturday” – and one of those days I played this song that I had written with hit songwriters Jon Nite & Sam Ellis, live on the acoustic guitar. A friend of mine who plays bass for the band Brother’s Osborne reached out to me telling me how much he had been moved by the song, and asked if he could play along with it live & get a few other musicians to play as well. I of course was completely humbled by this & said yes. All the musicians played along to my acoustic guitar & vocal and we came up with a live virtual version together even when none of us could be in the same room.

Each musician sent me their video & unfortunately I had no idea how I was going to edit this together. It just so happened that my best friend Roman Dent who I grew up with next door to me since we were 11, was home over the pandemic & helped show me how to use Adobe Premier to create this grid video. Roman was a very talented film director and editor and was always busy with other projects, and so we had started the edit but never finished it – Things started opening up, the lockdowns started to lift, and this unfinished video sat in my hard drive for an entire year.

Lots of things change in a year. And the biggest change in my life this year is that my best friend Roman Dent, is sadly no longer with us. At 32 years old, he passed in October of a sudden brain aneurysm that no one could have seen coming. Through this devastating time, I have been going through photos & videos of him, wanting to remember him & trying to understand how someone so amazing & so young could be gone. When I was going through my hard drive, I found this video & took it as a sign to finish it & release it. Life is precious. Time is precious. we never know how long we’re going to get. & instead of being afraid of failure, I’d rather be afraid of never taking the chance to put my music & art out there.

Now this song has a new meaning to me. Originally about a breakup that I went through and wanting to remember only the good parts, it now takes on a new meaning of loss to me & helps me remember the good memories of my friend. If you’ve lost someone close to you, hold on to those memories. Find the good to remember them by & hold those memories close to your heart.

Roman, this is for you. Thank you for always helping me believe in myself & create my art. Thank you for helping me finish this video & pushing me to release this song.
